Sunny but wet day in Grizedale

Late last night got a text off our friend Malcolm seeing if we fancied a ride round Grizedale.  It just so happened we were both off and no plans so we meet up in Blind lane car park.  We had a brief talk about a route and we came to the decision to make it up as we went along the route. The route was - from the car park we headed over to Satterthwaite then a wet muddy climb up Breasty Haw down the other side and through the hole in the wall.  Next Malcolm showed us some new cheeky trails in Dumbarton wood, from here we head up to far Sawrey onto the BW then before we hit the lake took a trail to the right that took us to th ferry.  We contoured along the lake to the BW on the left and climbed back to where we were about 30 mins ago. At the top we rode along to the cobbles and lunch.  After lunch we headed on to Hawkshead, up walkers ground to meet up with the north face trail until we could leave it and get onto tittys track.  From the bottom of TT we headed across to Moor lane down this and back to the car. Unfortunately half way down Moor lane I lost gears due to a snapped cable and was glad this happened near the end.  Good day out, great weather and just a bit wet under foot.

The weather was good

The weather was good but wind and rain was expected later so the plan was a quick ride up Helvellyn. An early start ish of 9 o'clock at the carpark near Town Head.  Started off by heading up Little Tongue to Grisedale Tarn at which point the weather didn't look too bad so change of plan. I headed down Grisedale to Patterdale then up through Glenridding, past the YHA up Glenridding Common (quick stop for lunch before the rain hit ) Next up onto the top of Helvellyn then down Birk Side back to the car, luckily I managed to dodge the rain.
Whilst heading along the Thirlmere valley I heard a new lamb bleating so went to investigate came across a Lamb stuck on a small crag.  Hmmmm two choices take it home for tea or save it and reunite it with its mum.  The second option won looks like it's going to be veg for tea :)

Day training Bike carrying

We had a day off with a great forecast so we thought it would make for a good ride to nip over into Longsleddale up Gatescarth pass down into Haweswater then the hike a bike of Nan Bield pass.  After that into Kentmere over Green Quarter down HP over to Browfoot and finally pick up the three rivers descent.
